American Bike Patrol Services has been providing training, patrol bikes and equipment to law enforcement and security since the early 90's. Our courses are taught by POST certified instructors and have been involved with bike patrol since its inception here in Southern California. We offer onsite classes with a minimum amount of students.

Departments can combine students from other agencies at their discretion. Each bike patrol training course is tailored to the needs of your agency. Security Basic Bike Patrol Training


 Location: On-site/Pre-arranged (patrol bikes and equipment are provided)

Time: 9:00am to 6:00pm

Course Overview: All students will be completing the following course outline. All of our classes were specially developed for basic bike patrol, and offer limited combative or weapons training. This will vary per department.

On-Site Classes: We can set up classes at your site with a minimum amount of students. Departments can combine students from other agencies at their discretion. Please contact us for details and set-up arrangements.

Requirements: This is a basic skills, riding and safety class. Individuals should be in good physical shape and have some bike riding experience. Officers are asked to wear comfortable clothing suited for training. Please, no street attire (including slacks, dress shirts or boots). Uniforms are highly recommended.

Description:  Students will learn basic bike patrol techniques including: mounting and dismounting, emergency stops, slow maneuvering, curb hopping, traffic safety, nutrition, basic bike maintenance, bike positioning, and other basic contact skills. Students will be required to meet the riding skills test and pass a written examination.

Equipment:  ABPS will provide the student with a patrol bike to use, if desired, gloves & water bottles and a cinch bag to keep. New, reduced-cost helmets are available to purchase day of the class. Please note that by using our equipment, the officers are not responsible for any damage that occurs in class. Use of personal equipment is the sole responsibility of the officer. All equipment will meet A.N.S.I. requirements as mandated by U.S. safety standards.

Materials: All materials required for the course will be provided. This includes reference and testing materials, certificate of completion, officers’ evaluations and scores.

Note: Although this course follows the outline of the California State Law Enforcement basic bike patrol course, it has been modified to eliminate an endurance ride and shooting day. It is strictly an instructional and safety course taught by P.O.S.T. certified instructors. If your department requires or allows the use of special equipment, please call us with your requests, and we will modify the course curriculum as needed.

Certification: Officers receive a certification of completion upon satisfactorily passing both the written and practical applications. Certifications will expire one year from the printed date.

Tuition: Cost of the course plus helmet can be billed to the department on open terms. Travel expenses out of the area (lodging/Fuel) are extra.

Police Bike Patrol Training Course


Location: On-site/Pre-arranged

Date: TBD

Time: 8:00am to 6:00pm (10 hour)

 

Course Overview: Students will be completing the following course outline. Any adjustments or special requests can be accommodated.

Requirements: This is a basic skills, riding and safety class. Individuals should be in good physical shape and have some riding experience. Officers are asked to wear comfortable clothing suited for training. Full bike patrol attire is highly recommended, including duty belt and equipment.

Description:  Students will learn to demonstrate and perform basic bike patrol techniques including: mounting and dismounting, emergency stops, slow maneuvering, curb hopping, traffic safety, nutrition, basic maintenance, bike positioning, and other basic skills.

Equipment:  Officers will need their fully equipped patrol bikes in good and safe working order. ABPS will provide back up patrol bikes to use and gloves & a water bottle to keep. ABPS instructors are also certified technicians that can conduct untimely repairs sometimes experienced during class. Most of our transport vehicles are also fully stocked mobile bike shops with enough inventories to handle most problems incurred during the course.

Materials: All materials required to complete the class will be provided. This includes reference and testing materials, framed certificate of completion, officers’ evaluations and scores.

Note: Although this course follows the general outlines of the California State Law Enforcement bike patrol courses, we can modify or accommodate special requirements, as needed for your department needs. This class is currently not POST certified.

E-Bike Patrol Training Course

Location: On-site/Pre-arranged (e-bikes required/per student)

Date: TBD

Time: 9:00am to 6:00pm

 

Course Overview: All students will be completing the following course outline. All of our classes are specially developed for basic ebike patrol, and offer limited combative or weapons training.  

Requirements: This is a basic skills, riding and safety class designed for e-bike use on patrol. Individuals should be in good physical shape and have successfully completed a basic bike patrol course. Officers are asked to wear comfortable clothing suited for training. Please, no street attire (including slacks, dress shirts or boots). Uniform are highly recommended.

Description: Students will learn basic ebike patrol techniques utilizing an e-bike including: operational procedure, ebike Laws, speed control, throttling (class 2 & 3). mounting/dismounting, emergency stops, slow maneuvering, curb hops/ lofting, ebike positioning, traffic safety/riding, scenari/interactions, nutrition/hydration, maintenance requirements and other basic contact skills. Students will be required to meet the riding skills test and pass a written examination.
